Recipe CardDearest daughters–Elizabeth, Anna, Christy, and Fernanda,

I am beginning the journey of collecting and recording the recipes you requested. My hope is I’ll do better including all the information this time, unlike when I gave Christy and Fernanda the macaroni and cheese recipe… I’m fairly confident this will be an improvement over the recipes in the drawer–crammed in and strewn about. You are a gift of God in my life, and I look forward to many more memories cooking and laughing together in the kitchen.

With more love than you know. ♥

The all too familiar question echoed in my ears again, “Do you have that recipe written down?” With a slight sigh, my daughter correctly appraised the situation and gently answered her own question, “You don’t do you?” My husband, daughter, and I embarked yet again, on a discussion concerning the need for recording family recipes–corrections, adjustments, and other creative modifications not withheld. To the frustration of others, the recipes are often only in my head, and the ones I do manage to get written down too often have missing essential details, to which my daughters-in-law can attest. My cryptic and abridged notes do not always translate well…

I have finally succumbed to repeated requests, of gathering together a complete record of holiday recipes. Despite my best efforts toward organization over the years, the recipes have taken up residence in multiple locations, and I haven’t always remembered to write down all the “little” modifications made along the way. My daughter, Elizabeth, prefers a “pretty to look at” cookbook over an unseemly binder; however, they usually do not accommodate the full-size paper that results when printing them out. Until I decorate a binder that satisfies Elizabeth’s aesthetic desire, this new and improved “drawer” will allow them to be easily accessed and edited as needed. At least that is my goal…

At initial glance, I didn’t think there were really that many to write down. I have a sneaky suspicion I might end up surprising myself!
